Marine Environment

One of the biggest challenges facing boatbuilders is the harsh marine environment. When creating a luxury craft with a comfortable, low-maintenance, living area, that includes all the necessities of modern life without compromising on space, builders and designers constantly seek to overcome the following obstacles:

  • Extreme climatic conditions – from arctic to tropical
  • UV exposure
  • Light
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Limited installation access
  • Privacy
  • Diverse window shapes
  • Heeling and motion
  • Insect control

All Oceanair products are marinised, with thorough testing of the fabrics and components, ensuring that they withstand the harsh marine environment. Oceanair identify the challenges which boatbuilders face, and constantly seek to provide practical, straight-forward solutions.

Taking Control

Comfort aboard

Harnessing control of light is one of the keys to individual comfort on board – the breadth of the Oceanair range offers a blind to suit any requirement. Whether slightly filtering the light to take the edge off the glare, or achieving 100% blackout to ensure sound sleep after dawn, manipulation of light transmission can create a multitude of moods. Choice of fabric also provides different levels of privacy, day and night. Light control is inextricably linked to temperature control – a denser fabric can create a cool environment away from the midday sun.

Design challenges

Oceanair is constantly finding innovative solutions to the challenges of ever-changing boat design. From increasingly complex and extreme shapes and sizes of windows with installation at severe inclines, to the issues of installation in limited spaces. Thoughtful research ensures that Oceanair blinds are unique in their ability to overcome the practicalities of operation afloat. Whether retro-fitted to a small yacht, or custom designed for a superyacht, Oceanair ensure that the Range works smoothly in all onboard conditions.

Extreme climatic conditions

Oceanair only select the highest quality fabrics that are stringently tested to ensure that they can withstand the extremes of temperature – from arctic to tropical conditions – and are UV resistant. The components of the hardware are selected for their durability and their compatibility with the marine environment.
