Will be responsible for all aspect of product design and product engineering. They will work in collaboration with the Operations Director to support Production engineering and with the sales Director on a product plan. 1/3 of our business is project work which requires engineering and design support on an adhoc basis.

They will also be responsible for the company’s design standards, which is its most valuable asset.

As a member of the senior membership team, they will seek to raise the EBIt from 16% to 20% by 2020 whilst growing the company from £18m to £20m as the companies next goal.

There will be a requirement to travel from time to time including our US assembly operation in Vermont.

 

Staff Management

  • Manage the design and engineering team for effective usage
  • Hiring of new staff as necessary in keeping with the companies process and HR
  • Annual reviews

General tasks

  • Manage new product and engineering projects to deliver on time to the right quality and price
  • Ensure that all engineering and management systems in use in the department are effective and best practice
  • Provide plans and Capex for all projects
  • Measure all design/ engineering resource
  • Report monthly to the Oa management team board
  • Plan use of Design/engineering resource for design projects and Superyacht work.
  • Maintain design standards and all company drawings manage the company’s technical sales written information with appropriate control.
  • Ensure all new products have set design standards and with assistance from IT to create the configurators for proper order options
  • Ensure the company compliances with all appropriate international regulations that we sell our products in.
  • Be responsible for launching new products on all matters other than sales and marketing
  • Ensure best practice health and safety is used by the department
  • Ensure company products are tested in the correct environment to the appropriate standard and usage. Establish and maintain this criterion
  • Ensure the security of the company’s technical data

 

Design

  • Liaising with the Sales Director design new innovative products to an agreed cost and style.
  • Value engineer as appropriate
  • Align the product with the Dometic group design principles
  • Provide design solutions to company products in the event of failure.
  • Specific design - See list of live projects
  • Manage the drawing office and its security working with IT as necessary
  • Maintain and follow the Oceanair design guide lines
  • Ensure the products are aligned with the companies Brand.
  • Evaluate new competitive products and advise on their failings and suitability.

  • Manage the engineering team in co-operation with the operations Director’s requirements.
  • Ensure the appropriate investment is being made for the volumes anticipated.
  • Ensure there is an appropriate maintenance scheme for all equipment

 

Cost

  • Manage the cost and introduction of new products working with the purchasing department
  • Provide accurate and up to date Bills of Materials for all products with an annual review.

 

IP management

  • Ensure the companies designs are appropriately protected for copyright, design registration and patents as appropriate.
  • Ensure the company confidential data is safeguarded at all times

 

Sales support

  • Support the sales team as necessary with technical assistance by drawing support or technical information.
  • Support Superyachts quotation with design work, drawings and costings to include estimated labour. Be responsible to ensure the agreed special designs complete by the agreed supply date. Advise manufacturing times on all one-off work.
  • Advise on installation work and ensure at all times the company’s products are used appropriately so as not to endanger users or the vessels or homes they are used in.
  • Provide technical assistance and design on electrical installations.
  • Provide technical training to all members of staff and Distributors and customers by agreement.
  • Ensure the companies advice on Fire retardant materials is up to date and current with regard the many regulation that we have to meet for boats and homes with appropriate drawings, tolerances, and materials as well as all aspects of the business.

  • To fabricate aluminium parts with equipment provided to cutting lists as required to a high standard and in a timely manner.  Training will be provided as and when necessary to achieve this.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety regulations are followed at all times.
  • Modification of components for use in production
  • Planning the sequence of actions for the completion of a job.
  • Selection of appropriate machine, method, speed & feed for any given job
  • Use a wide range of machining methods including boring, tapping etc.  
  • Manufacture first off samples, quality assure and label for future reference

Job Title: Senior Project Manager

Purpose of Position

Project management of allocated super yacht or residential/commercial projects.

Drive the order conversion of allocated projects with a pro-active technical back up of the business.

Key remit is: Order conversion, Customer satisfaction professional cost management & running of the project to the relevant contractual terms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Pre Order

  • Give technical & quotation support to both the Sales Manager and directly to the customer of allocated projects, support the sales activity to enhance the likelihood of winning the project.
  • Working closely with the Sales and Technical teams, ensure the products offered are within the scope and ability of Oceanair and offered within a timeline achievable within a managed project.

Project Management – Post Order

  • Take ‘project ownership’ of allocated projects, coordinating the required aspects to deliver to the project, on time, on budget, in full.
  • Make site visits as required to maintain the professional management of the projects.
  • Maintain a detailed time plan of allocated projects, advising details into the master forecast for Oceanair.
  • Develop a team philosophy, working with the relevant Sales, Production & Technical Teams to deliver the project in line with the project contract.
  • Via regular project review meetings, work closely with Oceanair Technical and Production teams to plan and co-ordinate each project through the Oceanair system.
  • Undertake specific site management to maintain the contractual position of the project at the point of delivery and installation if required.
  • Maintain a project file of all key communications.
  • Target a high customer satisfaction for the complete turnkey delivery of the allocated projects.
  • Maintain a detailed cost and reconciliation of all projects to make sure they are meeting the targeted profit. Project in excess of £50k will require a final report to the Board of Directors.
  • Manage all aspects of the survey and installation service, targeting a 15% gross margin on this section of the projects.

Required experience

  • Good at mathematics and analytical abilities.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship would be an asset.

  • To create sales support drawings for a wide range of internationally based customers using Oceanair custom products in specific applications.

Main Responsibilities

  • Production of 2d drawings to support Sales and Manufacturing
  • Ensure drawings are correctly issued, labelled, saved electronically and detailed to applicable engineering standards.
  • Work to guidelines given as required for product designs meeting recognised standards.
